- Welcome to the new Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Castell-nedd Port Talbot
Following Alun Pugh’s recent retirement, Menter Iaith Castell-nedd Port Talbot has welcomed their new Chief Officer Owain Glenister, who started at the beginning of September.
Owain Glenister has worked diligently over the Welsh language for many years. He started his career with Menter Bro Dinefwr in 2003, and during tht period he ensured that there were numerous opportunities for the people to use the Welsh language in the area.
Owain can see that music has an important part to play in promoting the Welsh language and is keen to nurture the musical talents of the people in the Neath Port Talbot area. According to Owain, the successes of Gigs y Gwach that are held in Pontardawe will be useful to this effect.
Owain’s ambitious target is to have the Welsh everywhere! It is no surprise that he is keen to expand on the number of people who work for the Menter Iaith. His hope is to have more officers on the ground in the future in order to continue to ensure the good work of his predecessor.
Owain is keen to work in the heart of the community and to come to know the area and the situation with the Welsh language better. In his own words, ‘I don’t want to hide behind a desk, I hate desks!’
Good luck to him in his new job and we look forward to Menter Iaith Castell-nedd Port Talbot’s future events.
